End of Year Survey for Parents

Dear Parents,

We invite you take participate in an end-of-year Survey.

This survey will provide valuable feedback to ICS Leadership and contribute to the development of our programs and school. The feedback is also a part of our on-going MSA Accreditation. The questions have been developed by a survey committee that includes Administrators and Board members. Your responses will be reviewed by teachers, administrators and Board members as we make plans for the coming months and years. 

The survey will cover the following areas:

  • Mission, Vision and Learner Profile
  • Governance
  • Leadership / Strategic Planning
  • Facilities
  • School Climate & Organization
  • Teaching & Learning
  • Student Services / Health & Safety
  • Parent Communications
  • Parent Involvement 

This survey is completely anonymous. 

This survey should take about 20 minutes to complete and must be completed during one sitting. You cannot go back and change your answers once you finish the survey.  There is a fantastic opportunity to receive a free coffee for participating!

Dramatic Clothes, Shoes or Accessories Wanted!

Do you have any unwanted clothes or accessories that are TOO DRAMATIC for the giveaway bag or yard sale? If yes, please drop your unwanted DRAMATIC CLOTHES, SHOES or ACCESSORIES (bags, belts, fashion jewelry) to the big blue bins located near the front gate car park / cafeteria.  They will be lovingly rehoused in the Drama Costume Rooms and used school wide to enhance our drama productions and use of drama and role-play in non-drama classes and after school activities.

Any items not suitable for drama purposes will be donated to communities in need working with ICS.

Important Notices for All Parents

Board of Governors Elections

Voting is now OPEN!  Association members are able to vote in 3 different ways:

  1. Paper ballot at the 19 April AGM
  2. Absentee paper ballot
  3. Absentee eVoting

We need approximately 120 voters to participate to make the election official. Please VOTE!

Association General Meeting: 19 April 7:00 PM

At the AGM, Association members can hear each candidate speak and answer any questions. At the end of the AGM the final vote tally will be verified and the 2017-18 Board of Governors will be announced on Thursday morning, 20 April via email and again announced in the Yezare Newsletter.

 

Community Coffee 26 April

Our next community coffee morning will be 26 April and we will be welcoming Dr. Tim Stuart, the incoming Head of School and his wife Mona Stuart.  The coffee morning breakfast will be from our host country, Ethiopia.

Reminder: Re-enrollment is due today!

The official re-enrollment for 2017-18 is due today! (13 April 2017).

Students who will be returning to ICS in the 2017-18 school year must submit the following as soon as possible.

1) Enrollment Contract

2) Medical Update Form

3) Registration Fee of $300

Students not returning to ICS must decline our offer of enrollment through the Enrollment Contract link provided in the re-enrollment email.

Note the registration fee of $300, which is non-refundable and is applicable for one year from the date of payment. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Jerry Tameru at info@icsaddis.edu.et

ICS Parent Association

You are invited to an open session to brainstorm about a parent group at ICS.

At this meeting we will generate ideas about what a parent group should look like at ICS.  We will address questions like:

  • What is the purpose of a parent group?
  • What would a parent group accomplish?
  • How should a parent group be structured?
  • And more….

Please join us on Wednesday 19 April from 8:00 - 9:00 AM in the upper commons.

Important Notices for All Parents

Board Election

Board of Governors Elections

The voting will begin on Wednesday 12 April.  Association members are able to vote in 3 different ways:

  1. Paper ballot at the 19 April AGM
  2. Absentee paper ballot
  3. Absentee eVoting

On 12 April, a candidate packet will go out via email to all association members with each candidate’s letter of interest, CV and photo.  At the same time, each candidate’s information listed above and video will be hosted online for Association members to view prior to casting their votes.

All Association members will also receive a unique webpage where they can cast their vote electronically.

Association General Meeting: 19 April 7:00 PM

Absentee paper ballots will close at 5:00 PM and eVoting will stop at 9:00 PM on 19 April.  At the AGM, Association members are welcome to hear each candidate speak and answer any questions.

After all the candidate speeches, we will break for a few moments to allow for final voting.  As the meeting carries on the Elections Committee will tally the paper ballots.  After the eVoting closes at 9:00 PM, the Elections Committee will get a final vote tally.

The 2017-18 Board of Governors will be announced on Thursday morning, 20 April via email and again announced in the Yezare Newsletter.

There are 6 elected and 1 appointed position open and a total of 7 Board Candidates this year.

 

 

Potential Power Outage on Sunday 9 April

Please be informed that our main backup generator will be on regular preventive maintenance service on the coming Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Hence, if the main power line goes off by any chance, there will not be power in the compound except for CCTV cameras.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

The clothes will be donated to an orphanage in Wolaita Sodo. We would greatly appreciate your participation and any clothing donations you would like to make.

Mother Tongue Maintenance Program (MTMP) sessions for elementary students will resume on 29 March.

Celebrate International Francophonie Day

International Francophonie Day is observed within the International Organization of La Francophonie's 77 member states every 20 March to celebrate the French language and Francophone culture. Students who are enrolled in French classes in ES, MS and HS at ICS will celebrate "francophonie week" from 20-24 March. There will be various activities including petanque, games, dictee, Fleurs de langue, at the SEC.

Board of Governors Elections 19 April

Interested in being on the Board of Governors next year? Elections will be held on 19 April at the Association General Meeting.

The ICS Board of Governors is made up of 9 members, eight members are elected by the association and one is appointed by the Board. The Board meets approximately once a month and primarily deals with the strategic direction of ICS in partnership with ICS Administration. As ICS embarks on academic and facility growth, it is imperative that there is a diverse and complete/functional Board of Governors.

Number of Open Seats:

There are seven open seats for the election.

How to Apply:

Submit your letter of interest, CV, and photo to the Board of Governors by Monday, 27 March.  To submit you’re your letter of interest you can send your letter interest to board@icsaddis.edu.et or drop it off at the main receptions.

Your letter of interest and CV should be no more than 3 pages.

In addition to your submission, we would like to take a 2 minute video of you and have that available to the association. We will schedule a time to film between 28 March - 5 April.

Important Notices for All Parents

Campus Access Policy

Campus Access Policy

In a continual effort to ensure the safety and security of our students, families and staff we wanted to make sure everyone was clear and up-to-date on our Campus Access Policy.  Please see the attached HERE.

A few highlights:

  • The ICS campus is open from 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM on regular school days and from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM on weekends. Students remaining after 3:30 PM on school days are expected to be in a supervised activity. Students not in a supervised activity will be taken to the bench near security until they are picked up.
  • EC-G8 students must be supervised at all times by an adult on weekends and after hours, unless participating in an ICS sponsored event.
  • Only the following areas are open on weekends:
    • Cafeteria and community commons areas
    • ES basketball court
    • Track
    • Library (Saturday mornings ONLY)
    • Upper ES playground (next to the basketball court)
    • KG playground

We feel strongly that this policy supports the best interests of our students and facilities. We appreciate your cooperation if following the Campus Access Policy.  It will be enforced in full over the next couple of weeks.
